The Flat Deck Fish
Dec 15
Our latest bastardisation of the Fish design is comin' to you straight from the barrel! We've been making this one for the last couple of years now, so we thought we'd share some field notes.
The Flat Deck Fish (FDF) has been road-tested in big, running point breaks, slabbing reef breaks, grovely shoreys, and pretty much everything else that we could find. While its versatility has come as no surprise, it's been gratifying to receive positive feedback from a range of surfers at varying levels of skill, and in such a wide array of waves.
We're under no illusions that it's perfect for everything, but if you're after a board that ticks the aesthetic box without becoming a one-dimensional, retrospective design, the FDF will serve your purpose.
The FDF sits between our Keel Fish and the Mod Fish - it's more versatile in the junk than the classic Keel fish, and more adept in the big stuff than the Mod Fish.
It's wider than the Mod Fish, with more of a classic nose template, but it has a touch more curve from the mid point to the tail. Fish designs are all about personal preference, but this design hits right on the mark for what we were after: it toes the line between classic and performance.
